Post by Rodmananyone ever had 4 shut-outs in a series?
I guess so.... Turco is an excellent goalie, but he's a jinx...
guy's what? 2-10 in playoffs OT's?
Turco was pretty close, 3.5 games of shut-outs....
he just couldn't finish off the Nucks.
4.5, if you count the 3 blanked periods of OT play in game 1.
Did this series have it all, or what? One of the longest OT games ever,
Three OTs, 3 shutouts (by, arguably, the slightly inferior goalie in the
series!) and lots of weirdness.
There's something glorious about how a 7 game series develops. First the
teams hate each other, then they really hate each other, then by game
six or so I get the impression that it takes great restraint for each
team to not try to punch through the ribcages of their opponents during
the national anthems.
BTW, until the Canucks potted two empty-netters in the last game, they
were behind in total goals for the series. As it was, they scored one
more goal than Dallas.
This continues an interesting theme for the Canucks from the regular
season: they are weirdly economical with their goals.
By economical, I mean that in the regular series they won more points
that expected given their goal differential (that stat being a strong
proxy for points earned). Here again, their goals overachieved.
Normally, the assumption is that goal differential oddities are mostly
luck and thus you can make good money betting against previously "lucky"
teams.
But the Canucks have made a pattern of it!
